  4.     Democrat or Republican, homosexual or heterosexual,
  5. Representative Barney Frank acted wrongly (NATION, Sept. 25). Stop
  6. making him the victim. He knew exactly what he was doing when he
  7. paid male prostitute Steve Gobie $80. I certainly cannot respect
  8. Frank or take him seriously. Let's hope the people of Massachusetts
  9. can't either.

  14.     It is interesting that you referred to Senator Edward Brooke's
  15. divorce proceedings and 1978 re-election defeat in your story on
  16. Representative Frank. I served as Brooke's press secretary during
  17. that period. His divorce was particularly nasty, and the resulting
  18. publicity hurt his re-election campaign. While others were
  19. distancing themselves from Brooke, Frank was supportive and urged
  20. that he be judged on his record. I can only hope that
  21. Representative Frank is accorded the kind of compassion and
  22. understanding he sought for my old boss.
